Janeen Bryant
Director of Operations at the Center for Racial Equity in Education (CREED) Charlotte, NC Award Year: 2021Janeen Bryant is the Director of Operations at the Center for Racial Equity in Education (CREED), which works to close opportunity gaps for children in P-20 education, especially children of color. CREED’s vision is that one day race will no longer be the primary predictor of educational outcomes. Janeen previously served as the Southern Regional Director for Leadership for Educational Equity. She is also the founder of Facilitate Movement, a consultancy that builds organizational capacity. As a guest columnist for the Charlotte Observer, she serves as a voice for marginalized communities. Her writing can be seen in MASS Action (Museum as Site for Social Action) Tool kit, Curator, and Museums & Race. Selected as a 2019 Aspen Ideas Festival Scholar, Janeen celebrates innovation and welcomes connection as she continues her quest for a more just and equitable world.
Janeen is using her award to pursue her Ph.D. in Leadership and Change. She has also used the award to expand her consultancy, Facilitate Movement, LLC, from Atlanta to Baltimore, directly building empathetic capacity in cultural spaces.
Janeen is leading the Truth & Transformation facilitation design for the National Center for Civil and Human Rights and developing dialogic content for the Baltimore Museum of Art with the Empathetic Museum group.
Janeen joined the Carolina Youth Coalitions podcast, Personal Statement, where she discussed Racial Inequalities in Education, was interviewed by EdNC for an article, When They Couldn’t Find a Place That Centered Race in Education, CREED’s Founders Created One, and participated in several conferences including, #BlackCom2021| Freedom Hill: Casting a Community Vision of Equity for Black Students in North Carolina.
