Tamieka Atkins

Executive Director of ProGeorgia Atlanta, GA Award Year: 2020

Tamieka Atkins is Executive Director of ProGeorgia, Georgia’s state-based nonpartisan voter engagement advocacy organization, and a member of the State Voices National Network of Tables, a network of nonpartisan coalitions (called “tables”) that work together to create a more accessible, inclusive, and representative democracy. Tamieka coordinates the voter registration and civic engagement plans of 35 partner organizations, and through the “table” provides infrastructure and capacity-building to support organizations in growing their voter registration and civic engagement programs. She was the Founding Director of the National Domestic Workers Alliance-Atlanta Chapter, where she developed a base of African-American domestic workers advocating for respect, recognition, and inclusion in labor protections for all domestic workers.

  • Tamieka used her award to create a transformative health campaign for ProGeorgia staff to ensure their physical and mental health during the 2021 pandemic and fallout.

  • ProGeorgia had its most extensive outreach campaign in ProGeorgia history in both the 2020 election and the three following statewide runoff elections. Together, ProGeorgia partners reached 4.7 million voters, over 18 million times, with a specific focus on contacting Black voters. Nearly half of the voters contacted by ProGeorgia turned out at the polls.
